Thursday evenings

Practice Day: Sunday Nov 1, 10am-5pm
Mandatory Orientation Sep 10th OR Sep 17th, 6-9pm
Course will be conducted live online via Zoom, through NewYork-Presbyterian Integrative Health and Wellbeing
(attendance at one orientation session required for those intending to take the course).
Orientation: free
MBSR Course tuition: $400
Course fee includes all materials and all-day practice day.

Mindful Astoria: Weekly Meditation Gathering
Every Wednesday 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Currently Online due to COVID-19

$5-$10 suggested donation, no one will be turned away due to lack of funds

Join us on Wednesday nights for meditation and conversation about mindfulness. Learn how to bring mindfulness into daily life, and how to establish, maintain, and deepen a personal mindfulness practice.

Each class will consist of instruction in different forms of mindfulness meditation, and time for group discussion and connecting with the community. Depending on the week, the teacher may give a talk or share a reading about a related topic.

No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation necessary.

Guided meditation such as mindful breathing, body scan, lovingkindness, gentle stretching, and more. These sessions are right for you if you are seeking a connection to an online meditation community, and wish to deepen or establish a regular, daily meditation practice. Free and open to all.

Emily is a Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher. She trained in MBSR at the University of Massachusetts Medical School Center for Mindfulness. She attended the MBSR Teacher Development Intensive in November 2013, the Nine-Day Practicum in MBSR in July 2013, and MBSR in Mind-Body Medicine in 2015. She has been a student at the Interdependence Project (IDP) since 2005, is a graduate of IDP's Yearlong Immersion and Instructor Training Program, and is now on the IDP teaching and curriculum development faculty.

Emily is a Mind-Body Therapist at Weill Cornell Medicine where she teaches meditation to patients and staff. She has been teaching mindfulness meditation since 2011 at universities (Columbia, Adelphi, The New School), in educational and healthcare settings, in workplaces, yoga studios, churches, synagogues, and privately. A resident of Astoria, Queens, Emily leads regular mindfulness meditation classes in her neighborhood at Mindful Astoria.


In 2017 Emily completed the Institute for Jewish Spirituality's Jewish Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training program. She is interested in the relationship between mindfulness and Jewish practice. She on the leadership team of Malkhut, a progressive, spiritual Jewish community in Western Queens.


Emily is also a writer with a particular love for memoir, poetry, and playwriting. She received her MFA in Nonfiction Writing from Columbia University in 2012, and attended the Summer Writing Program at Naropa University in 2012. Emily is interested in the role of mindfulness in the creative process, and teaches mindfulness workshops for writers. Publications include USA Today, The Island Review, Shambhala Publications The Under 35 Project, The Women’s International Perspective, and Crescendo City.

Emily began practicing mindfulness meditation in 2003 to help her cope with chronic illness. Meditation has been an important part of her life ever since.
